Dentures are often thought of as an older style of treatment for missing teeth. And, although there are more state-of-the-art treatments now available for missing teeth (such as dental implant technology ), these treatments are not always suitable for all patients. If this is the case, more conventional treatments like dentures or dental bridges may be your best bet.
Regardless of which treatment option is right for you, replacing your missing teeth will not only improve your appearance and confidence, it will also increase your chewing ability and support your remaining teeth.
Our Denture Clinic Solutions and Procedures
Dentures are basically removable replacements for your missing teeth, which can be either permanent or temporary solutions. There are a number of different types of dentures, in all of which the dedicated team at dhealth Dentistry have many years of experience. These range from:
- Full or Complete Dentures: these replace either the entire upper row or entire lower row of teeth (or both) after a full mouth clearance. This type of denture is made after your teeth have been removed and your gum tissue has begun to heal, approximately 8 to 12 weeks after your teeth have been removed.
- Partial Dentures: these replace multiple teeth in either your top or bottom jaw (or both). They include replacement teeth, which are then attached to a base made out of plastic that matches your gum colour. The base is then connected to metal frameworks that hold your dentures in place.
- Immediate Dentures: these are a temporary measure, usually used between your consultation and treatment, to hold spaces in place, and allow an area to heal after tooth extraction or implant treatment.
- ‘All on 4’ Dentures: a relatively new approach to dentures, this treatment style sees dentures supported on several implants. This approach has been called ’All on 4’ because commonly four implants are used to support your implants.
There are a wide variety of choices available when it comes to dentures, ranging from a simple plastic denture to ‘All on 4’, which have a metal base. This metal base can be made from chrome, cobalt, or even precious alloys containing gold, silver and platinum. All these options are very useful if you suffer from allergies to particular types of metals.
Benefits of Full / Partial Dentures
If made and fitted accurately, you should quickly and easily adapt to your new teeth. Once you do, the long-term benefits of having dentures are considerable (particularly compared to leaving your smile full of gaps caused by missing teeth). Dentures:
- Replace the gaps in your smile created by missing teeth, allowing you to smile with confidence once again.
- Reduce the risk of your remaining teeth tilting or drifting.
- Hold your natural tooth spaces and (where suitable) keep your options open for future implant work.
- Allow you to eat and chew as normally as possible.
- Give you the self-confidence to smile without worry or embarrassment.
